1996
▪ A shopping center looking to draw tenants such as Kmart, Home Depot, Target or Walmart was tentatively planned for I-77 and Sutton Road.
▪ Over 120,000 visitors were expected to view the fourth annual Festival of Lights at the Radisson Grand Resort in Fort Mill Township.
▪ Army National Guard Private Lakeisha S. Sanders graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia.
▪ In a special meeting, Anne Suite was reelected chairperson of the Fort Mill school board. Richard Carter was elected vice-chairman.
1976
▪ St. John’s United Methodist Church hosted a community-wide Thanksgiving Service on Thanksgiving Eve. Dr. Ralph Lattimore, pastor of the First Baptist Church, brought the message.
▪ The Fort Mill United Way reached 80 percent of its $22,581 goal.
▪ The Senior Citizens Club of Fort Mill celebrated its 12th anniversary with a picnic at the clubhouse. The event was sponsored by Springs Recreation Department and the Fort Mill Woman’s Club.
▪ The Skyview Restaurant on Nations Ford Road offered a half chicken dinner for $1.99, spaghetti with salad for $1.49 and children’s plates for $1.19.
1956
▪ Following months of planning, Kimbrell’s Furniture Store opened its new store at 232 Main Street. W. C. (Bill) Kimbrell was manager.
▪ The Fort Mill Optimist Club awarded Johnny Meyers the Most Valuable Player trophy for his play on the 1956 Fort Mill High School football team. Shelly Sutton, Ernest Lambert and Tommy Lowder were also honored.
1936
▪ John L. Boatwright, who worked with Bratton D. Epps on the Springs farm, was severely hurt when a mule kicked him in the face.
▪ The work of grading the new highway between Fort Mill and Sugar Creek had been finished.
1916
▪ At a special meeting of the York County Board of Commissioners, a proposal to erect a new bridge over the Catawba at the end of Cherry Road was favored.
▪ Many suggestions were brought forth on how to properly welcome the Fort Mill Light Infantry home after its service on the Mexican-American Border.
