The Military Writers Society of America has recognized a Lake Wylie author’s historical novel, “Enemies,” as one of the four best books for 2016. It is still in the running for No. 1.

“That’s a big deal for war era writers, and I am honored,” said Dick Barnes, who was featured in the January in the Lake Wylie Pilot for publishing his eighth book, “Enemies.”

Barnes has written a mystery, “Cult,” which is expected to publish early next year.

“It is based on a true event in 1994 when, simultaneously, mass suicides took place in Switzerland, France and Quebec,” he said. “My villain is a fictional guy who escapes death, but goes on to perpetuate the killings.”
