Oakridge Middle School baseball, softball and soccer triumph

Baseball

▪ The Oakridge Middle School team defeated Clover Middle School 13-1 March 25. OMS racked up 13 runs on six hits. Contributing offensively for the Golden Eagles were: Kolby Crepeau - double and 2 RBIs; Will Van Scoyoc - single and 2 RBIs; Steven Yarab, Wade Birkenbach and Kevin Rylie - each with a single and 1 RBI; Payton Barrow, Justin Wolf, Dennis Matias and Andrew Tully - 1 RBI each; Jake Hylinski - single. Defensively the Golden Eagles gave up one run on four hits. Kevin Riley recorded the win for the Golden Eagles, allowing one run over four innings. He struck out one, walked two and surrendered three hits. Golden Eagles closer Justin Wolf put away the final six outs to record the save.

▪ The OMS team brought its reacord 5-1 with a 5-2 win against York Middle School. Jake Hylinski pitched a complete game in seven innings at York Middle. Hylinski struck out eight hitters, allowed 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks over seven innings. Offensively the Golden Eagles racked up 5 runs off 10 hits. Contributing for the team were: Will Van Scoyoc - double, sacrifice bunt, RBI; Hunter Holland - two singles and RBI; Kolby Crepeau and Andrew Tully - each with two singles; Dennis Matias and Kevin Rylie - each with a single and RBI; Jake Hylinski – single.

Softball

▪ The Oakridge team beat Dutchman Creek 15-6 on March 25. Dakota Peters pitched, striking out six hitters in the process. Leading the way for the offense were: Claire LaMontagne - 1 for 2, 2 RBIs, 3 runs; Tia Kalau - 3 runs; and Emily Boudreaux, Katy Sutton and Elizabeth Cunningham - all scoring two runs each.

▪ The team won 9-8 against previously undefeated Saluda Trail March 23. Dakota Peters pitched a scoreless first frame, striking out all 3 hitters. Emily Boudreaux connected with a solid base hit and stole second to lead off. Sophia Sprouse hit a RBI triple. Sprouse also scored on an infield hit by Peters. Gwen Brochu belted a RBI double to score Dakota after she had stolen second base, to make the score 4-0. Gwen later scored on a fielder’s choice by Elizabeth Cunningham. Peters stuck out three of the next five batters in the top of the second. Oakridge added a run in the bottom of the second after Brochu singled home Sprouse after Sprouse had singled and stolen second. In the top of the next inning, Saluda scored six. Oakridge tied it at 6-6 after Cunningham stole second and third base, and then scored as the throw got away from the third baseman. Saluda Trail retook the lead in the top of the fourth 7-6. The Lady Eagles responded with Boudreaux singling, stealing second and being knocked in by Sprouse’s base hit. Sprouse stole second and scored on a passed ball to give OMS the lead 8-7. Peters stuck out all three hitters in the fifth. Oakridge added a run after Tia Kalau walked, stole second and third base, and scored on a fielder’s choice by Maggie Wilson. The Lady Eagles gave up a run in the top of the sixth. Sprouse gunned down the runner trying to steal second. Peters struck out the next hitter, and after getting in a bases loaded jam, the hitter grounded into a game-ending play at first base. Standouts for Oakridge were: Dakota Peters - striking out 14; Sophia Sprouse - 3 for 3, 2 RBI, 3 runs; Gwen Brochu - 2 for 4, 2 RBI, 1 run; Emily Boudreaux - 2 for 3, 2 runs, 3 steals.

▪ The team defeated Sullivan 17-0 in two innings March 26. Every Lady Golden Eagle played and Dakota Peters pitched . The Lady Eagles are 4-1 on the season.

Track

▪ The Lady Golden Eagles started their season March 24 with a third-place finish. Scoring for OMS were: 4x100 meter team - Mindal Reese, Sara Nguyen, Emma Johnson and Tiona Walls, second place; 4x400 team - Taylor Knapp, Maddie McMullen, Imani Rivas and Tiona Walls, second; 100 meter - Emma Johnson, first; 400 meter - Imani Rivas, third, and Melina Bowe, fourth; sprint medley - Emma Johnson, Sara Nguyen, Skyler Wolfe and Tiona Walls, first place; 200 meter - Mindal Reese, second, Cassidy Pierce, third; shot put - Maddie McMullen, first; discus - Deylon Harkey, first.

▪ On March 24, the boys’ track season began at Springfield Middle School with a third-place finish. Scoring for OMS were: 4x100 team - Hezekiah Massey, Blake Keffer, Hayden Johnson and Justin Liu, second place; 1600 meter - Collin Schmolze, second; 1600 meter - Brandon Stiff, fourth; 100 meter - Hezekiah Massey and Noah Fernanders, tied for third; sprint medley team - Hezey Massey, Justin Liu, Hayden Johnson and Collin Schmolze, first; 20 meter - Justin Liu, second; 4x400 relay - Collin Schmolze, Blake Keffer, Hayden Johnson and Laz Borges, second; shot put - Trevor Stevens, third; discus - Isaiah Farmer, first.

▪ On March 26, the Lady Golden Eagles team broke school records at Sullivan Middle School, but missed second place by a half a point. Scoring were: 1600 meter - Dezi Mei, third with a personal record of 6 minutes, 16 seconds; 100 meter - Emma Johnson, first and new school record; 400 meter - Imani Rivas, second, Olivia Beaudin, fifth; spring medley - Emma Johnson, Sara Nguyen, Sydney Frascht and Tiona Walls, first and new school record; 200 meter - Emma Johnson, first and new school record, Imani Reese, third, and Mindal Reese, fifth; long jump - Cassidy Pierce, fourth; high jump - Olivia Beaudin, third; shot put - Maddie McMullen, third; discus - Deylon Harkey, first.

▪ On March 26, OMS boys placed fourth. Scoring were: 4x100 relay - Noah Fernanders, Lake King, Blake Keffer and Lazarus Borges, third; 1600 meter - Collin Schmolze, fifth; 400 meter - Laz Borges, fifth; 800 meter - Brandon Stiff, third.

Soccer

▪ Every OMS Lady Golden Eagle touched the field March 23 as Oakridge took on Banks Trail Middle. Selah Gaylor started scoring by snatching the ball from a Wolf and taking it to the goal. Janae Massey took a pass from Anni Thomas to make the score 2-0. After half time, Caroline Ringler found Massey again near the goal, where she made the final score of the game, defeating the Wolves 3-0. Brooklyn Gunn had one save, while Madison Crisp had three.

▪ The OMS boys’ soccer game against Banks Trail on March 23 started off with a goal 5 minutes into the game. Carson Onoszko sent a ball down the line that Ethan Stevenson put in the net. Nikki Mandakovic assisted the next goal as Georgie Lamparter hammered a shot into the net in minute 42. In the 45th minute Lamparter assisted Seth Curl after he finished the ball for the final score. Corey Chambers and Christian Erwin split another shut out, as the Golden Eagles won 3-0.

▪ On March 26, the Lady Golden Eagles beat Fort Mill 7-0, the team’s sixth shut out. Ann Mason McConnell scored assisted by Brooklyn Gunn. Shortly afterward, Addison Partin assisted Brooklyn in getting another goal. The third goal of the night came from Maddie Franks, taking a pass from Ann Mason. Maddie kept going and assisted Anni Thomas for another goal. Starting the second half off right, Selah Gaylor scored from a pass by Janae Massey. Olivia Vogt scored off a pass from Massey. Caroline Ringler sealed the game with a goal off a pass from Franks. Madison Crisp protected the goal with 2 saves.

▪ The OMS boys defeated Fort Mill 3-1 March 26. The game had a sudden change when the back line lost track of a Fort Mill player who scored on a breakaway. In less than 30 seconds, Seth Curl assisted Brandon Malcolm to even up the game. After half time, Ethan Stevenson scored on an assist from Camden Largen putting them up in the 35th minute. In the 50th minute, Tanner Martin scored being assisted by Cameron McPherson. Corey Chambers held the box for the full game. The boys are 7-1.
