The Clover Choristers were invited to perform “Beauty and the Beast” at the Broadway Junior Celebration, sponsored by the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts and iTheatrics of New York City.

“Our kids stepped up onto that big stage and owned it,” said founding director Angie Sulls. “They received a standing ovation from the event directors and 600 middle and elementary age students in attendance.”

Sulls is working with educators and performing specialists including Clover High School drama teacher Rob Addison (director of Clover Youth Theatre Company), Griggs Road Elementary teacher Elizabeth Love, local harpist and music educator Carla Mitchell, and a new member of the team, Ramsey Lyric of the Charlotte Children’s Theater.

“The directors tweeted that our performance brought them to tears,” Love said.

Thanks to a grant from the Blumenthal, the Clover Choristers cast of 44 students ages 5-11 will bring the production of “Disney’s Beauty and The Beast Jr.” to the stage at 3:30 p.m. May 2-3 at Blue Eagle Auditorium, 300 Clinton Ave., Clover. Tickets cost $10.

The group rehearses at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church in Lake Wylie. For more information and tickets, visit cloverchoristers.org.
