Oakridge Middle defeats rival Clover on soccer field
Soccer
▪ On April 16, Oakridge Middle School boys’ soccer team defeated Gold Hill 5-0. It took five minutes for Matthew Gurley to assist Derrick Karsch to make the game 1-0. Derrick scored again seven minutes later with an assist by Brandon Malcolm. Derrick scored again three minutes later to give OMS the first hat trick of the year. He fired into the upper 90 to put the game out of reach. With one minute left, Seth Curl broke got on board to take it to halftime at 4-0. In the second half, Nikki Mandkovic set up Derrick for his fourth goal.
▪ The Golden Eagles defeated the Blue Eagles 2-1 in overtime April 14. About 20 minutes into the game, Clover got on the board as their player broke through and Christian Erwin came out and stopped him, but the ball bounced to the player who found the back of the net. This was the third goal scored on OMS this year. Ten minutes into the second half, Derrick Karsch sent a ball through that Ethan Stevenson found and placed to knot up the game. As the game entered overtime, Brandon Malcolm set up Derrick who scored to win the game for Oakridge.
▪ On April 16, OMS Lady Golden Eagles defeated the Gold Hill team 3-1. Selah Gaylor connected with Janae Massey twice to get two goals. Gold Hill retorted with a score. Selah passed to Janae for the third and final goal of the game.
▪ On April 14, OMS Lady Golden Eagles defeated Clover 6-1. Selah Gaylor scored three goals, while Janae Massey, Maddie Franks and Brooklyn Gunn each scored one. Assists were provided by Gaylor with 2, Bailey Story, Caroline Ringler, Massey and Olivia Vogt with 1 each.
Softball
▪ On April 14, OMS lost to Clover. The Lady Golden Eagles took the lead in the top of the fourth, but couldn’t sustain their momentum. Playing well for OMS offensively were Emily Boudreaux, Katy Sutton and Maggie Wilson.
Track
▪ The boys’ track team placed third April 9 against Castle Heights and York. Scoring for the Golden Eagles: 1600 meter- Collin Schmolze, first, Brandon Stiff, second, Michael Kramer, fourth; 800 meter - Stiff, fourth; discus - Isaiah Farmer, second, Blake Keffer, third, Trevor Stevens, fourth.
