The upcoming TEC Dowling Memorial Golf Tournament brings together two of Fort Mill and Tega Cay’s greatest loves and biggest attractions – golf and education.
Sponsors and golfers are invited to participate in the inaugural TEC Dowling Memorial Golf Tournament June 3 at the Tega Cay Golf Club.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Foundation for Fort Mill Schools, a nonprofit organization that provides financial support to teachers, administrators and students in the Fort Mill School District through grants and scholarships.
The foundation also provides school supplies to students in the districtthrough its annual school supply drive and distribution and its school supply closet, available to teachers throughout the school year.
“The foundation’s focus is on supporting programs that benefit students, teachers and administrators,” said Executive Director Lynn Ringley. “The money raised from our golf tournament is essential to helping us provide support for programs that may otherwise go unfunded.”
The fundraising goal for the tournament is $25,000.
Sponsorship opportunities are available at many levels, from $300 to $5,000, and include benefits ranging from recognition on the tournament T-shirt to a booth on the club grounds and a sponsorship banner at the tournament.
The entry fee for golfers is $125 per player or $500 per team, which includes lunch, green fees, cart, gift bag, awards dinner, nonalcoholic beverages and range balls.
The tournament is a captain’s choice, shot gun start, with prizes awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin.
The tournament is held in memory of Thomas Edward Calhoun, “TEC” Dowling, who served as superintendent of the Fort Mill School District from 1997 to 2005. During his term, he oversaw tremendous growth, including two bond referendums and the implementation of impact fees. Along with Foundation Chairwoman Martha Kinard, who was serving then as a school board member, Dowling pushed for the establishment of the Foundation for Fort Mill Schools.
“He was a tireless advocate of Children First and demonstrated a real passion for public education,” said Eddie Dowling, TEC Dowling’s son and a member of the foundation’s board.
“One of the things he loved most was combining his love of golf with other employees in the district. In honor of his efforts, coupled with his love for sharing golf with friends and colleagues, we are excited to hold the first annual TEC Dowling Memorial Golf Tournament benefiting the Foundation for Fort Mill Schools.”
