Nominations wanted for arts partnership award
Arts Council of York County is accepting nominations for Business and the Arts Partnership Award.
Created in1992, the award recognizes businesses whose partnership with the arts has been demonstrated during the calendar year. The winner will be honored at the Arts Council of York County’s annual Celebration on June 25 at the Community Performance Center, 249 E. Main St.
Criteria considered includes impact on the arts community; involvement in the arts through employee volunteers, donation of in-kind services and goods, tie-ins that involve the arts in advertising, marketing, promotion and public relations campaigns, establishments of arts collections; and originality of the support programs.

Lawyer makes super list
Thomas E. “Tommy” Pope has been selected to the 2015 South Carolina Super Lawyers list.
This is the third consecutive year that Pope, managing partner at Elrod Pope Law Firm in Rock Hill, has been named to the list.
Fewer than 5 percent of South Carolina lawyers earn this award. Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selection includes a statewide survey of lawyers and an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. The Super Lawyers lists are published nationwide in Super Lawyers Magazines and other publications.
Pope is was elected in 2014 as S.C. House Speaker Pro Tempore.

Allen Tate Realtors raise $104,000
Allen Tate Realtors and employees recently contributed more than $104,000 to arts and cultural programs and United Way agencies through its Tate Cares giving campaign.
This year’s campaign marked the third year for Tate Cares, a combined event to support cultural initiatives and the United Way. The Tate Cares umbrella also includes FUNday, an event held each fall to raise money for public education.
Regional chairmen for the 2015 Tate Cares campaign were Mike Ransom, Charlotte; Robert Smith, Triad; Barbara O’Rourke, Triangle; and Lindsie Sink, Upstate.
Comporium holding photo contest
Comporium is holding a photography contest sanctioned by the city of Rock Hill highlighting the 90-by-70 foot fountain at Fountain Park on East Main Street. Submission deadline is 5 p.m. June 1.
With variable configurations throughout the hour, a water show begins shortly before the top of each hour that builds up to a center jet burst that goes nearly 110 feet on days when the wind is light.
The grand prize will feature the winning photo on the cover of the next York County directory that will be distributed at the end of August, along with prizes and money for the top three winners.
Anyone wishing to enter may submit three entries. High resolution JPEGs are requested with resolution no less than 300 dpi. Prints, disks or USB sticks may be delivered to Comporium’s office at 330 E. Black St. or to the Arts Council of York County, 121 E. KL Creative opens summer camp registration
KL Creative offers innovative summer camps starting the week of June 15 and running through Aug. 10 in Lake Wylie.
This year, digital photography camp includes marine photography by boat on the lake with a licensed captain and runs 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for ages 8 and older.
Guest artists include New York photographer Deena Feinberg teaching The Art of I-phoneography. Learn about composing in-camera and demonstrating the artistic possibilities within the darkroom in the phone. This camp is available 1-3 p.m. the week of July 6 for ages 10 and older. Campers can use an iPhone, iPod or iPad to take pictures and will be supplied with an iTunes card to download apps.
Local artist Rose Grigg, a nationally board certified art educator with a bachelor’s in fine arts and master’s in art education, will return to lead hands-on art explorations using mixed media, paper sculpture, printmaking and painting. Her class meets 1-3 p.m. the weeks of July 13 and July 20 for ages for ages 6-12.
During the weeks of Aug. 3 and Aug. 10, Isabel Shankel, Danish Yogini, will lead Yoda + Yoga 1-3 p.m. for ages 8 and older. This meditation and yoga practice was created for children to learn flexibility, strength, focus and relaxation.
