Dollar Daze coming to Lake Wylie

A family-owned dollar store is coming to Anchor Shops Place.

Dollar Daze could open within weeks. Yosef and Jennifer Alejandro plan to offer name brand and generic items, and will fill part of the 2,400-square-foot space left open when Anytime Fitness moved to the new phase of the commercial development at Evergreen Road and Charlotte Highway.

“It’s a family-owned and operated dollar store, not a chain,” Yosef Alejandro said. “Everything is a dollar. Nothing is over a dollar, and we will personalize orders for customers as well.”

Alejandro will put together larger orders for businesses and customers. The former automotive industry manager wants customers to see the same items in his store they do elsewhere, but at a better value.

“I wanted products that people have heard about,” he said.

The Alejandros of Indian Land have three sons, ages 12 to 17. Alejandro said the Lake Wylie demographics drew him to open shop there.

“I wanted to venture out,” Alejandro said of the career change. “The projected growth in that area in the next three to five years is tremendous. As a small business, we wanted the opportunity to go in there before somebody else.”

The U.S. Army veteran would like to have a soft opening during the last full week of May, and a grand opening within a month or so. Within a year he hopes to offer an online ordering service, too.

It could take a little longer to open the store. Brian Long, vice president of sales and leasing with RL West managing the shopping center, said it could be up and running by mid-June.

“He has received permits for construction, and we anticipate his upfit will be complete around July 1,” Long said.

The newest addition adds to Anchor Shops Place, which now has only two spaces available.

“We have only two end caps remaining, one around 2,400 square feet and one around 1,850 square feet,” Long said. “Everything else has been leased.”
