The city of Tega Cay and town of Fort Mill are ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the 2015 Niche Best Suburbs listings for South Carolina.
The rankings are based on quality of life criteria, including weather, safety, schools, access to activities, jobs, housing and transportation.
“A high ranking indicates that a suburb offers a high quality of life to its residents,” according to local.niche.com. Giving Tega Cay an overall grade of A+, the site also ranks Tega Cay as the No. 1 Best Suburb to Raise a Family in the Charlotte Metro Area and South Carolina overall, No. 1 Safest Suburb and No. 2 for Best Suburb to Buy a House in South Carolina.
“Being recognized as No. 1 in so many of these different categories is a great honor,” said Mayor George Sheppard. “Tega Cay is a wonderful community with many great amenities. I am proud to call Tega Cay home.”

Both Tega Cay and Fort Mill were named at or near the top in similar rankings from other publications in recent years, including nerdwallet.com and Business Insider.
“It's always exciting to be recognized nationally,” Fort Mill Mayor Danny Funderburk said. “The citizens of the town of Fort Mill enjoy a wonderful quality of life and we continue to be one of the top places in the country to work, play and raise a family.”
In the Niche rankings, Clemson was No. 3, Folly Beach No. 8 and Goose Creek No. 12. Gaston in Lexington County rounded out the last on the list at No. 21.
