Fort Mill Times

Fort Mill Times publishes final edition; News will be published in The Herald

Dear Readers,

The Fort Mill Times has for several decades been The Herald’s way of showing that we are paying attention to news in the rapidly growing northern tier of York County, South Carolina.

Each Wednesday, readers in the Fort Mill area have been accustomed to receiving a publication that has chronicled the exponential growth of subdivisions, spawned by commuters with jobs on both sides of the state line. And with that have come new schools, diversity and more prosperity.

As of April 15 that coverage will change. That will be the last publication day for The Fort Mill Times. All of our news coverage from northern York County will still be available in the print edition of The Herald and heraldonline.com.

We still will cover our northern tier of York County with the same dedication and intensity. Northern York County is an important portion of our coverage area and we will not retreat.

The new coverage now will be published in The Herald each Wednesday and Sunday. There will be dedicated, identifiable pages where readers can see the articles they’ve come to expect.

This change has not been an easy decision.

The internet has changed reader habits. And over the past decades the newspaper industry has transitioned to adapt a business model that allows us to be viable as we move forward. That challenge has been exacerbated by more economic challenges as we work through the impact of the coronavirus in our region.

What do the changes mean for our readers?

You still will receive the familiar advertising supplement each Wednesday. It will now include a Carolina Food section.

Advertising that you’re familiar with will shift to The Herald.

Sports coverage — high schools and other local features — will be on our daily Herald sports pages.

The Herald also will have its traditional news coverage of the whole region each day, in print and online at heraldonline.com. That will not change.

These changes make The Herald a stronger, more efficient publication with greater ability to serve you — as we’ve done during the coronavirus threat. We’ve made many online articles free to readers as we work to help you stay safe and healthy.

Now, we ask that you support our local journalism by becoming a subscriber. Here is a link to a special subscription offer. We are committed to remaining your strongest provider of local news.

Thank you.
