York Downtown Live concert June 19

The annual free Downtown Live concert series on in York has begun in a new location in the front lawn of the Greater York Chamber of Commerce, across from the York library.

Paul Boger, executive director of the chamber, said event leaders think the new location at 23 E. Liberty St. is more visible. In the past, the concerts have been in the parking lot of Whitesides Cleaners on Congress Street.

“It would make it nice for people to sit on the grass or bring a blanket to sit on or chairs,” Boger said. “And we felt like a grass surface would make it a little cooler.

“For those reasons, we felt like it would create a little more welcoming, pleasant atmosphere, and maybe we would end up with more people who would come out and enjoy the music.”

He said parking is along Gardner Street next to the chamber, and cones are set up to mark the area.

The summer concerts are presented 5:30-9 p.m. the third Friday of the month as a kickoff for the Summerfest celebration.

Adult beverages, food and drinks will be sold and there will be a 50/50 drawing.

Performers for the remaining concerts are: June 19, Flickted, a four-piece group that performs ’80s music, R&B and country; July 17, Carolina Rhythm Band, a six-piece band that does beach, Motown, country and classic rock; and Aug. 21, Flashback, a seven-piece group that performs Motown, beach, disco and rock.
