Woman’s Club of Fort Mill honors creative writing contest winners

The Woman’s Club of Fort Mill presented awards May 15 to the winners of its annual Creative Writing Contest.

The schools that participated were Orchard Park Elementary (teacher Robin Babinchak), and Fort Mill Elementary (teachers Lisa Albaugh and Michael Lucas).

GFWC is the club’s national organization. Madeleine Sikes was the GFWC-South Carolina winner and her work was sent on to GFWC for judging with the winner to be announced at the annual convention in Memphis, Tenn.

The Woman’s Club of Fort Mill presented certificates to all students who participated in the project. The winner received a week at Art Summer Camp donated by the Arts Council of York County.

Additional participants who received certificates at the WCFM reception were: Skylar Whitmire, Kayla Southwood, Caroline Slafka, Kate Barrier, Lily Sutton, Lilly MacPherson, Harper Lumpkin, Caroline Rhodes, Liam McCabe and Maggie MacDonald.

Club member ShirLee Alfors coordinated the local contest and acted as judge along with members Carolyn Sumner, Jane Marks and Amy Tobik.
