School notes: Lake Wylie area students make college honor lists

Charleston Southern posts dean’s list

Charleston Southern announces the spring 2015 dean’s list. Students must earn a 3.5 GPA or better and earned 12 credit hours or more for the semester to make the list.

Among the students are sophomore Christopher Eugene Martas Adams of Clover, who is majoring in communication, and senior Amanda Nicole Blom of Lake Wylie who is majoring in early childhood education.

Clover area students make Lander list

Lander University announces its president’s and dean’s lists, and freshman honors for spring semester 2015. Undergraduates who have earned a grade point average of 4.0 out of a possible 4.0 are on the president’s list. Those with a GPA of 3.5 to 3.9 are on the dean’s list, while freshmen with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 earn freshman honors. Clover area students are:

▪ President’s: Sarah T. Lynch, Clover.

▪ Dean’s: Rebecca M. Adams, Clover.

▪ Freshman Honors: Randall S. Jackson, Clover.

Clemson University posts honor lists

Clemson University announces the president’s and dean’s list for the spring 2015 semester. To be named to the president’s list, a student must achieve a 4.0 grade-point average. Students must achieve a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale to make the dean’s list.

Local students on the president’s list include:

▪ Lake Wylie: Grant Alexander Boloyan, management; Dylan Spenser Byrd, computer science; Kristopher Gregory Gross, chemistry; Lauren Emily Hemmingsen, bioengineering; Jenna Marie G. Baker, nursing.

Lions offering $3,000 for exchange program

The River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club is offering a new award for Clover High School students.

A member of the rising class of 2017 senior can earn up to $3,000 in airfare and tuition to participate in the 2016 S.C. Lions Summer Youth Exchange, which provides an opportunity to promote cooperation through friendship among American and international future leaders.

Host blood drive, earn scholarship

▪ High school and college students can win a scholarship by hosting an American Red Cross blood drive through Aug. 31 through the Leaders Save Lives program.

The Leaders Save Lives program encourages community-minded 16- to 24-year-olds to host blood drives to help maintain the blood supply during over the summer months. Students who participate as a blood drive coordinator are eligible to win a scholarship up to $2,500 for higher education and to earn a gift card.

A total of 10 scholarships will be awarded via drawing to students who achieve 100 percent of their blood drive collections goal. All students who achieve the designated blood drive goal will receive an electronic gift card to giftcertificates.com.

▪ The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is calling on high school and college students for its seventh annual Students Saving Summer Scholarship Program.

Students who organize and host a successful blood drive with CBCC through Sept. 30 have the chance to earn scholarship money for their secondary education. The top five producing blood drives each receive a $1,000 scholarship from CBCC. Since 2009, CBCC has awarded more than 300 scholarships and grants.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must choose a location, recruit donors and collect a minimum of 25 units of blood. Each student will be paired up with a CBCC representative who will provide assistance with planning the blood drive. The CBCC scholarship donation must be directly transferred to the college, university or other learning establishment of each winner’s choice.
