1995
▪ York County Sheriff’s Office deputies were investigating the third homicide in Fort Mill Township in 12 months. The body of a 48-year-old Charlotte man was found on Springs Farm. He had been shot three times in the head.
▪ Fort Mill Police Chief Jeff Helms promoted two officers. Cpl. Joe. D. Moore was promoted to sergeant and Officer Wayne Richardson was promoted to corporal.
▪ James E. Howie of Colorado traveled the farthest to attend the Indian Land High School Alumni Reunion. Glenn Potts was elected alumni president.
▪ A judge in Anderson issued a restraining order that allowed area video poker parlors to remain open at least one more week.
1975
▪ The York County legislative delegation changed the distribution formula for school taxes. The new formula gave Rock Hill more funds and less for the other three districts.
▪ Main Street stores participating in July 4 sales included The Men’s Shop, Stroup’s, Ackerman’s, Bailes and Crouch Jewelers, Eagle Stores and Kimbrell’s.
▪ Airman Kenneth J. McKenzie graduated from the U.S. Air Force Mechanic Course at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, Texas.
▪ Leland Robinson was the winner of the York County Open, which was played on Tega Cay’s Cross Keys course.
1955
▪ Few Fort Mill residents realized that T.K. Lee of Birmingham, Ala., widely acclaimed as the nation’s best shot, was born and raised in Fort Mill.
▪ L.G. (Mutt) Adams defeated Dewey Koon to become the Fort Mill Golf Course champion. The tournament was played in blistering heat.
1935
▪ Incumbents A.C. Sutton and W.M. White were re-elected to the Fort Mill School Board of Trustees.
▪ John M. Harris, 72, well known progressive and successful farmer of the Pleasant Valley Community, died in a Charlotte hospital.
1915
▪ The Fort Mill Graded School would soon be equipped with sanitary drinking fountains as a gift of the Parent-Teacher Club.
▪ Professor L.W. Dick, one time co-principal of the old Fort Mill Academy and current superintendent of the Hartsville schools, spent time in this city.
