Sports briefs: All Star Clover/Lake Wylie team to play for state title

Baseball

All Star team to play for state title

The Lake Wylie Little League and Clover Recreation Department combined All Star Intermediate Team defeated Newport Little League to win the District 8 Championship in the best of three tournament, played June 29-30 at the Clover Parks and Recreation Complex.

The team will advance to play for the Little League state title July 11-12 in Newberry.

Golf

Golfers hit 78 in senior tourney

Lake Wylie duo took on the Super Senior 65 and older at Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball One-Day Tournament June 25 at Spartanburg Country Club.

Dave Duncan and Mike Shively finished 38-40 - 78.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the tournament date, is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club. The field is divided into divisions based on age and total team course handicap: Tournament Division-Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 65 and older Division, Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 70 and older Division.

Softball

Clover camp July 21-24

The Clover High School softball camp, for ages 5-15, will be 9 a.m.-noon July 21-24 at the CHS softball field.

Instruction will be provided by the Lady Blue Eagles softball coaching staff, and current and former players. Camp T-shirts will be provided.

Cost is $50 per camp participant, or $80 for two players. Register at Clover Parks and Recreation Department by July 14.

Belmont offers summer programs

Belmont Parks & Rec is accepting registrations for youth and adult summer tennis classes and camps for ages 4 and older.
