The Thursday Night Tournament Trail is getting a break from the weather for now, said organizer Erwin Gaston, of the July 2 event.

“It rained all around Lake Wylie but spared getting the fishermen wet,” said Gaston, who runs the weekly tournament with Jeremy Cabe. “It turned out to be a tough night for bites for most fisherman but for some it was a good night.”

Todd Auten and Bryan “Surfer” New snagged another win with five bass that weighed in at 17.14 pounds.

“Not too bad for a tough night,” Gaston said.

In a field of 38 boats, only 14 weighed fish.

Second place went to Bucky Helms and Steve Addington. Their five bass weighed 16.19 pounds. They also reeled in the big fish at 4.93 pounds.

The trail is sponsored by Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express, A-1 Adams Bail Bonds Agency and Sparks Grading.

Tournaments are held Thursdays through Aug. 27. Registration runs 5:30-6:20 p.m. at Buster Boyd Access Area. Blast off is at 6:30 p.m. and weigh-in at 11 p.m. The two-night Championship Fish-off is Sept. 11-12.
