Sports briefs: Lake Wylie basketball camp to be July 20-22

Lake Wylie academy July 20-22

The 2015 Lake Wylie Athletic Association Basketball 101 Academy will be July 20-22 at Oakridge Middle School.

The activities for rising second- through seventh-graders will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. each day. The cost is $50.

Campers will be instructed on ball handling, passing, defensive stance and positioning, shooting, playing without the ball and the importance of teamwork.

Coach Bailey Jackson, with players and other coaches, will provide instruction and lead drills.

Jackson has more than 19 years of experience coaching high school basketball and just completed his third season as head coach at Clover High School. He has also served as the head coach at Fort Mill, eight years; Chesnee, one year; and Buford, four years.

In his 17 seasons as a head coach, Jackson’s teams qualified for the state playoffs 15 times, have won three conference championships, one upper state title and one state title. The 2015 Clover Blue Eagle basketball team won the Region 3-AAAA championship.

Softball

Clover camp July 21-24

The Clover High School softball camp, for ages 5-15, will be 9 a.m.-noon July 21-24 at the CHS softball field.

Instruction will be provided by the Lady Blue Eagles softball coaching staff, and current and former players. Camp T-shirts will be provided.

Cost is $50 per camp participant, or $80 for two players. Register at Clover Parks and Recreation Department by July 14.

Tennis

Belmont offers summer programs

Belmont Parks & Rec is accepting registrations for youth and adult summer tennis classes and camps for ages 4 and older.
