QuikTrip looks to add Fort Mill location on Carowinds Boulevard
A new QuikTrip is be coming to Carowinds Boulevard.
QuikTrip submitted a zoning variance request to York County for a site at 271 Carowinds Blvd. Two acres there include a Titlemax building and a vacant lot. The plan is to tear down the existing building, where the tenant has a lease through September of 2016.
“If they aren’t able to get out of their lease until then, we wouldn’t be able start construction until next fall,” said Brandon Forshee, real estate project manager with QuikTrip. “If they are able to get out earlier, we’ll be able to start earlier.”
On average, a new location takes about seven months to build.
The plan is to put an entrance near Lakemont Boulevard and a right in, right out access at the Carowinds/Lakemont intersection. The plan requires a variance due to how many feet the new entrances require.
The proposed parcel sits between Lakemont and a Marathon station. According to the request submitted by the company, it is not possible to build an additional driveway between the two existing driveways and still meet county requirements.
“In other situations QT would look to do a shared access with the adjacent property owner, but in this case, that is not an option because they are a competitor,” reads the application.
Plans submitted to the county show 14 pumping stations facing Carowinds. Turning from Carowinds onto Lakemont, the main entrance would come behind the station, on the left.
The zoning board was the hear QuikTrip at its July 9 meeting, but the issue was deferred until Aug. 13.
Quiktrip has eight York County locations, with three in Fort Mill and two in Indian Land.
