1995

▪ Jacky Bayne, Fort Mill native who was pronounced dead and later revived on an embalming table in Vietnam, celebrated his 50th birthday.

▪ Melissa Till Elms of Gray Rock Road in Fort Mill was named Mrs. South Carolina in a pageant held in Wilmington, N.C.

▪ David Alaw, 1991 graduate of Fort Mill High School, graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the USMC.

▪ George Eaton of Lake Wylie announced his candidacy for sheriff of York County in the 1996 election.

1975

▪ In a letter to the editor, Michael Case Hill deplored the theft of many of the United States flags from their poles on Main Street.

▪ Fort Mill City Council agreed to annex a small area east of the city on which a small shopping center would be built.

▪ Mayor McFadden suggested that because Carothers School would be closed, that Monroe White Street should be opened to two way traffic.

▪ The Fort Mill School Board accepted the low bid of $44,390 from Matthews Construction Co. of Rock Hill to build a 4,000-square-foot band room at Fort Mill High School.

1955

▪ Kenneth Pridmore, versatile multi-sport athlete at Fort Mill High School, was named to the South Carolina Class A All-State High School baseball team.

▪ T.W. Derrick, former Fort Mill chief of police and captain of the York County Rural Police, announced his resignation.

1935

▪ Herbert Harris, who was seriously wounded on the western front in the World War, received the Purple Heart Medal.

▪ An announcement was made that Frederick Mack would represent the Fort Mill Troop of Boy Scouts at the world wide jamboree to be held in Washington, D.C.

1915

▪ B.W. Bradford sold his interest in the Majestic Theater to John E. Jones, who would personally conduct the business in the future.

▪ The Crescent Restaurant, which had been doing business in the Belk Building on Main Street, closed.
