The River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club recently surprised Lake Wylie Pilot editor Catherine “Kitty” Muccigrosso at her editorial board meeting with a plaque honoring her and the newspaper’s commitment to making the community aware of the many Lions’ fundraising events that result in its ability to aid 35 charitable organizations.
Lions Community Foundation announces new board
The River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Community Foundation has chosen its new Board of Trustees to serve for the fiscal year 2015-2016. The incoming chairman is Jerry Epping. Other members are: Owen Brown, Hank LaBrun, Drew Naber, Don Jeffries, Dave Brown, Martin Lewis, Susan Thomas, Lee Rowley, Len Fleet, Bruce Roberts and Paul Boggs.

Western county NAACP to meet July 23
The Western York County branch of the NAACP will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23 at Clover Chapel United Methodist Church, 405 Kings Mountain St., Clover.

4-H offering beekeeping camp
4-H Youth Development, a part of Clemson Extension Service in York County, will host a beekeeping camp 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 28-29 for ages 5-19 at the York Extension Office 120 N. Congress St.
Campers will learn the basics of beekeeping, bee’s jobs in the colony including how pollination takes place, the parts of the hive, the equipment beekeepers use and how honey is extracted. Campers will receive resources to take home and a sample of honey.

River Hills Women’s Club dues due July 30
The River Hills Women’s Club will start its season with a Sept. 16 monthly luncheon.
The social organization for women who live in River Hills or are a member of the River Hills Country Club meet each month September through May for a luncheon at River Hills Country Club. The group holds a Ladies Night Out in January instead of the luncheons.
Members also may join interest groups – such as dinner groups, book and garden clubs, travel, bridge for ladies or couples, sewing, jewelry making and more – that get together at other times during the month. These groups include: dinner groups for members and spouses to go out to area restaurants
Returning members should pay annual dues by July 30 to be included in the yearbook. Send a check for $20 to Sandy Shaffer at 32 Catawba Ridge Road.

Enter by July 31 for livestock show
The 2015 York County Fall Livestock Show will be held Sept. 4-5 at B&S Farms, 3350 Armenia Road, Chester. Youth registration is open until July 31.
Youth exhibitors must be South Carolina residents and a member in 4-H, FFA or Junior Breed Association ages 5-19 as of Jan. 1 to participate.
Sept. 4 shows are Pullet at 5 p.m. and Meat Goat at 6 p.m.
Sept. 5 shows are Sheep at 9 a.m., Horse at 10 a.m., Beef at 11 a.m. and Dairy at 2 p.m.
Entries postmarked after the July 31 deadline, Aug. 1-15 will be charged an additional $15 fee per animal. Forms are available at clemson.edu/york.

4-H creating alumni directory
4-H Youth Development, a part of Clemson Extension Service in York County, is compiling a directory of 4-H alumni.
The hopes of compiling the directory is to reach out to alumni to see how the program is thriving and revamp their interest if it has been lost during the years. Call 803-684-9919.
Lions offer program for veterans
The River Hills/ Lake Wylie Lions Club is offering “Involve a U.S. Veteran,” which waives the club’s traditional $40 fee for retired or honorably discharged personnel from the U.S. military.
