Lions host foreign students

Three foreign students were guests of honor at the River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club monthly breakfast meeting in July.

The students, part of the annual South Carolina Lions Youth Exchange Program, were: Carolin Lesch of Germany, Ilona Haukka of Finland, and Chantal Vannini of Italy. Ilona and Chantal are being hosted by Lion Morgan Lombardo and husband Erik, while Carolin is with Lions Dona and Frank Van Leer. The students will spend two weeks in the Lake Wylie area and two additional weeks sightseeing throughout the state.

A “peace through connection” Lions Clubs International youth services opens the door for students from many countries to develop relationships with each other and American hosts. By the same token, South Carolina students, individually sponsored by Lions Clubs, are welcome to apply to participate in similar summer exchanges.

For more information about local sponsorship or serving as a host family, email flvanleer@msn.com.
