Steele Creek’s Ayrsley adds third hotel with Embassy Suites opening

Ayrsley has added a third hotel with the recent opening of Embassy Suites Charlotte/Ayrsley.

Tom and Barbara Henson of Ayrsley III are the same team that brought a Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites to the community.

“It has a ‘boutique-y’ feel,” Barbara Henson said. “It has an upscale feel. That was our goal, and we feel like we accomplished it.”

The area can support a third hotel, she said, because of the high employment in and near Ayrsley, proximity to the airport and overall growth in Charlotte.

“That corridor, the Lake Wylie corridor and the Steele Creek corridor, is such a dynamic and growing part of our city,” Barbara Henson said.

Along with 170 rooms, the hotel features more than 13,000 square feet of meeting space and a 7,000-square-foot ballroom.

“There is full-service catering available, making this an ideal location for wedding receptions, corporate events and meetings,” said Tom Henson.

The ballroom can seat 400, but also be subdivided for several smaller functions.

“We can accommodate quite a large crowd,” Barbara Henson said.

The hotel opened in late June. Amenities include cooked breakfasts, a manager reception each evening, 24-hour business center, indoor pool and free WiFi. Brickstones Grill is open to guests and the public.

Area and regional decor also highlight the new hotel. A Charlotte painter created 21 pieces hanging throughout. A local potter and sculptor added seven more, and a woodcrafter from Raleigh, N.C., created the piece hanging at the entrance to Brickstones. The bar features bookcases with the Henson family’s leather book collection.

“One of the goals for the hotel was to utilize and highlight local and regional artists and talent during the design and embellishment of the new hotel,” Barbara Henson said.
