Humane Society gears up for annual Fort Mill festival
It's all hands – and paws – on deck at the York County Humane Society as preparations get underway for the sixth annual Dog Gone Good Time Festival.
The September event is one of the YCHS’s largest fundraisers of the year. Members of the community, including vaccinated, well-behaved dogs on leashes, are invited to Walter Elisha Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, to have fun and support pet adoption.
The event will include a dog walk, child- and pet-friendly activities, as well as food and music.
“We offer training presentations and the opportunity for families to have fun and potentially meet new members of their family. Companion Parrots will even be there available for adoption,” said organizer Mary Beth Knapp.
Event sponsors and vendors are being recruited and teams are forming to compete to raise the most money to support the local nonprofit. The event brought in $16,000 last year. This year organizers hope to bring in at least $20,000.
The Humane Society of York County placed more than 720 animals in homes in 2014.
