Club news: Lake Wylie Lions award Distinguished Service Award

Hawkins named Distinguished Lion

River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club member Charlie Hawkins was recently award the prestigious Lions Distinguished Service Award.

Hawkins has participated in and led a number of fundraising events during his 26 years of Lions service. A decorated veteran of World War II, he also served as chairman of the Lake Wylie Marine Commission and the River Hills Community Church Foundation, was an officer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, a mentor in the Clover school district and an arbitrator in the S.C. criminal justice system.

4-H volunteers wanted

4-H Youth Development, a part of Clemson Extension Service in York County, seeks 4-H volunteers for the new club year.

The 2015 South Carolina 4-H Volunteer Symposium will be 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 8 at Benedict College School of Continuing Education, 111 Doctor’s Circle, Columbia.

Lions offer program for veterans

The River Hills/ Lake Wylie Lions Club is offering “Involve a U.S. Veteran,” which waives the club’s traditional $40 fee for retired or honorably discharged personnel from the U.S. military.

Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation seeks donations, especially furniture, for its thrift store at 4082 Charlotte Highway.
