Charlotte-Mecklenburg police make arrest in July homicide

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested Peter Gould Jr., 38, on charges of first-degree murder Friday.

Gould of Charlotte is accused of killing David Doyle Jr., 64, who was found dead on July 19 after police received a call and searched a house on Plantation Woods Drive in the Riverpointe subdivision near Lake Wylie. Property records show Doyle owned a house on that street.

Police said Gould became a suspect during the investigation and was in custody of the Union County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges when he was arrested.

He was charged by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police with murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit serious injury, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary, kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny of auto, according to a police department news release.
