1995
▪ The Fort Mill High School marching band, under the direction of Martin Dickey and assistant Randy Grantham, attended band camp at Limestone College in Gaffney.
▪ Work was underway on another 3,000 feet of walking paths along the north side of Harris Street in Fort Mill.
▪ Fort Mill’s school board was expected to ask voters to approve a bond referendum for a new middle school next May.
▪ While the Fort Mill varsity football team was away at football camp, the JV and ninth- grade teams began practice under coach Tom Neal.
1975
▪ Three burned out buildings on Confederate Street, just off Main Street, fell to demolition crews.
▪ Cindy Massey and Martha Ann McKinney were honored as Home Run Champ and Best Pitcher by the women’s softball league.
▪ Miller Coggins, Fort Mill High School agriculture teacher, announced the closing of the Fort Mill Cannery for the season. He added that 12,000 cans of fruits and veggies were processed this summer.
▪ The vandalism of fire hydrants in the city several weeks ago cost the city $1,000 in extra water usage.
1955
▪ Brothers Daniel and Bobby Passmore recently enlisted in the Navy and were flown to Great Lakes, Ill., for boot camp.
▪ Announcement came out of Washington, D.C., that Congress had given its approval for a new Post Office for Fort Mill.
1935
▪ Interest shown recently in Fort Mill in the new game, softball, a modified form of baseball, resulted in the formation of a local league.
▪ Perhaps the largest watermelon ever grown in Fort Mill, 93 pounds, was sold to Dr. J. H. DesPortes by the grower, Dillard Chambers.
1915
▪ The Mills & Young Co. moved its stock of general merchandise to the two handsome new buildings which were nearing completion on the north side of Main Street.
▪ July was the driest month on record in South Carolina according to the weather bureau in Columbia.
