Pleasant Hill church names music director

Myron Walker has been named the new director of music, effective Aug. 23, at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, 15000 York Road.

A Charleston native, Walker has a bachelor’s degree in music with a minor in economics from Winthrop University in Rock Hill. He is pursuing a master’s degree in choral conducting.

Walker, who has been the recipient of several music scholarships, studied piano with Matthew Manwarren and Eugene Barban, and voice with the late Jerry Helton and Jeffery McEvoy. His current conducting teacher is Katherine Kinsey. Most recently he coached with Walter Hautzig (piano) and Donald Neuen (choral conducting).

Walker plans to pursue a full-time career in real estate development, while dedicating his free time to teaching piano at the Winthrop Academy of Music and directing the music ministry of Pleasant Hill church.

Senior Pastor Bob Jack said “Myron plans on working diligently to expand the music ministry at Pleasant Hill church in a positive direction.”

First Baptist fish fry, bake sale Aug. 22

First Baptist Church, 102 S. Congress St., will host a youth mission fish fry and bake sale benefit 4:30-8 p.m. Aug. 22 at the church fellowship hall.

Plates cost $9, and include fish and chicken strips, or a combination, with french fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. A drink is included with eat-in orders only.

The meal is catered by Catfish Cove. Proceeds go to the youth mission fund.

Clover Wesleyan hot dog sale Aug. 22

The men’s group at Clover Wesleyan Church will have a hot dog sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 22.

Family movie night set

Christ the King Church, 13501 S. Tryon St., will hold a free family movie night at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 29.

The movie is “McFarland.”

Popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for $1 each. Children younger than age 12 must be accompanied by adult.

St. Paul UMC ice cream social Aug. 29

St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1550 St. Paul Church Road, will have an old-fashioned ice cream social 4-7 p.m. Aug. 29.

The event will include hot dogs and homemade ice cream. Everyone is welcome. Donations will be accepted.

Register for community Bible study

Community Bible Study – an international, interdenominational, in-depth Bible study – has changed its scheduled meeting time and cost.

The group will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays beginning Sept. 2 at River Hills Community Church.

The study is for women and their children through high school age. The study is not affiliated with a church. All communities, churches, backgrounds, ages and levels of Bible knowledge are welcome.

The 30-week study of Daniel and Revelation costs $35 for adults and $10 for children, and includes lesson books.

Temple Solel posts High Holy Days services

Temple Solel, the Reform Jewish Congregation has announced High Holy Days schedule at St. Philip Neri Church community room, unless noted.

▪ Sept. 13 High Holidays Family Service is at 10 a.m. at Blooming Einsteins, 2752 Pleasant Road, suite 103, Fort Mill. Erev Rosh Hashana is at 7 p.m. at St. Philip Neri.

▪ Sept. 14 Rosh Hashana is 10 a.m. Tash Lich to follow.

▪ Sept. 18 Shabbat Shuva at 7 p.m.

▪ Sep. 22 Kol Nidre at 7 p.m.

▪ Sep. 23 Yom Kippur: 10 a.m. morning service, 4 p.m. Yiskor, closing services to follow. Break-the-fast following closing services.

Community Cafe serves lunch Tuesdays

The Community Cafe offers free weekly lunches 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly.

The Cafe at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church in Fort Mill serves lunch 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Fridays.
