1995
▪ Owners of the Majestic Theatre on Confederate Street and the A&P on Clebourne Street were given a four-month deadline to demolish the buildings.
▪ Fort Mill’s Yellow Jackets defeated the Indian Land Warriors 21-16 in the annual cross creek football match.
▪ For the second straight year, Flint Hill Baptist Church won the men’s softball league championship and the Class D state tournament.
▪ Developers were finalizing plans to bring a bank, restaurant and seven other businesses into Peachtree Plaza on S.C. 160 West, Fort Mill.
1975
▪ Frosty Witherspoon, owner and proprietor of the Men’s Shop at 217 Main St. in Fort Mill since 1954, announced his retirement and the closing of the store.
▪ The Fort Mill High School Band, under the direction of John DeLoach, returned home after a week of band camp at Pfeiffer College at Misenheimer, N.C.
▪ Steve Godfrey and Chuck Mullinax were named team captains of the 1975 Yellow Jacket football team. Jerry Sorrow and Roy Starnes were named co-captains.
▪ The Tega Cay Rescue Squad was formed and headed by Jim Heine. The squad had 40 members, mostly women.
1955
▪ Van Dawson Potts, 79, former Fort Mill chief of police, died. Potts served as chief of the Fort Mill Police Department for 24 of his 36 years in law enforcement.
▪ The Rev. Max Christopher was assigned to Saint John’s Methodist Church succeeding the Rev. B.C. Gleaton.
1935
▪ City council members selected night policeman A.R. McElhaney to fill the vacancy of dismissed officer M.B. Blackmon.
▪ Fort Mill was in the running for an outright grant of $25,000 from the federal government to build a National Guard armory.
1915
▪ The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Garrison of Booth Street had all but recovered from diphtheria.
▪ Residents were expected to attend York’s first homecoming.
