Club news: Lake Wylie Scouts selling coupon books

Women invited to membership tea Sept. 10

The Clover Woman’s Club invites prospective members to a membership tea at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at club president Kay Vrooman’s house, 3310 Lincoln Road, York.

The club is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year. Many founding members still live in the Clover area and there are activities planned to commemorate the early years of the club.

SAR meeting Sept. 12 in York

The Col. William Bratton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 at the Jane Spratt Room, McCelvey Center, 212 E. Ferguson St.

Guest speaker is author Mickey C. Beckham, who will share information about “Myths of the American Revolution.” A guided tour of the Southern Revolutionary War Institute by director Michael Scoggins follows.

Troop 333 selling coupon books

Lake Wylie Troop 333, which meets at River Hills Community Church, is selling local coupon books in paper or mobile format through Sept. 15 for its annual High Adventure Fundraiser. Coupons are good through November 2016.

Troop 333 also is gearing up for its annual popcorn fundraiser. Each Scout will sell popcorn Sept. 21- Oct. 23. To kick off the fundraiser, Scouts will be a Lake Wylie Walmart Sept. 19 and Lowe’s in Lake Wylie on Oct. 10. Proceeds go to troop activities including campouts, supplies and operating costs.

Sweet Repeat extends hours, seeks members

Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation Thrift Store, 4082B Charlotte Highway, is now open three days a week.

The store will be open 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The store accepts gently-used clothing, furniture, kitchen items, jewelry and more.

This year, Sweet Repeat Foundation donated $71,000 to 19 charities and gave three scholarships to Clover High School students. Organizations seeking financial assistance may fill out a form available at the store. Money is awarded in August.

New members are welcome. Annual dues cost $20, and members are required to work six hours a month at the shop. Applications are available at the store.

River Hills Women’s group to meet

The River Hills Women’s Club will meet Sept. 16 for its monthly luncheon at River Hills Country Club.

The club is a social organization for women who live in River Hills or are a member of the River Hills Country Club. Each month September through May, the club has a luncheon (with the exception of January) at the country club. Interest groups include dinner and lunch groups, book and garden clubs, Bridge, sew and chat and more.

Returning and new members should pay annual dues of $20 to Sandy Shaffer at 32 Catawba Ridge Road.

Clover Jaycees plan auto show, fall festival

The Clover Jaycees and the town of Clover will host the annual auto show and fall festival Sept. 19 on Main Street in downtown Clover.

Vendor applications are being accepted for crafts, children’s activities and food.

The auto show features more than 45 classes, with awards presented for Best Paint, Best Engine, Best Interior, Best Club Participation and Furthest Distance Traveled. A Best of Show trophy is presented in memory of the late Dwayne Adams.

Registration for the auto show begins at 8 a.m. The cost is $20 in advance, or $25 day of the event.

A parking lot party featuring music by Finally Friday is 6:30-10 p.m. in the Bi-Lo parking lot. Bring lawn chairs.

Girls on Run registration set

Girls on the Run of the Tri County registration underway for all sites. The fall season begins the week of Sept. 21 and ends Dec. 5 at the Piedmont Medical Center’s Reindeer Romp in Rock Hill.

Girls on the Run is a physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in third to eighth grade. With 20 sessions, the program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a 5K.

Win $10,000 in Lions raffle

The River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club will hold a raffle Oct. 3 with one prize: $10,000.

Only 300 raffle tickets will be sold, at $100 each. The winning ticket will be drawn at 8:30 p.m. at River Hills Country Club. The winner need not be present to win.

The raffle benefits the River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS, which offers free services or payable through patient’s insurance in the Lake Wylie area. Tickets are available at River Hills Community Association office, or by calling 803-818-1729 or 803-831-8683.

▪ The club continues to hold free eye screenings. The program, Lions Kidsight USA, uses state-of-the-art Welch Allyn camera capable of checking for six potential eye problems. Parental consent is required. If a referral is recommended for a child, printed documentation the results will be sent to the facility.
