Scholarship for Excellence goes to Clover man
Ryan George of Clover has been awarded a Scholarship for Excellence at Youngstown State University.
George, a freshman majoring in pre-business management, received the Red and White Scholarship. The Scholarships for Excellence awards are: $1,000 First Opportunity; $2,000 Red and White; $3,000 Dean’s; $4,000 President’s; $5,000 Trustees’; $4,000 to $6,000 Provost; $1,000 Martin Luther King; $1,000 to $3,000 Honors Program; and $2,000 Trailblazer.

Garden class offered for home-schooled students
The Clemson Extension Service in York County and city of Rock Hill has changed the dates for its 4-H Come Grow With Me in the Garden series, September through December for home-schooled students ages 6-14.
Classes will be held at the Glencairn Garden Learning Center, 825 Edgemont Ave., Rock Hill, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 28, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14. Students will learn about horticulture, vegetable gardening and leadership through activities and a service project. Cost is $65.
The registration and fee deadline is Sept. 22 and includes a 2015-2016 4-H yearly membership. For information, call 803-684-9919.
Gaston Day Fall Festival Oct. 3
The Gaston Day School Fall Festival is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 3 at 2001 Gaston Day School Road.
Event includes horse rides, face painting, games and the dunk tank, as well as Euro Bungee, 65-foot slide and 32-foot rock climbing wall.
Wristbands in advance are $25, or $30 at the door, and include unlimited games and rides. Individual rides or games cost $1 each.
Vendors will sell flowers, jewelry and crafts, food, and there will be raffle with themed baskets.
At 2 p.m., a helicopter will drop purchased golf balls. Cash prizes will be awarded based on proximity to designated pins.
