Brief bites: Fishing tournament part of teen leadership weekend at Lake Wylie camp
Boating safety class held monthly
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary holds a boating safety course 9 a.m.-5 p.m. the third Saturday of every month at River Hills Marina conference center.
The class covers all aspects of boating. A safe boating course is required for boat operators born after Jan. 1, 1988, and is recommended for everyone.

Fishing tourney part of teen leadership weekend
The Life of Impact Leadership Experience is Oct. 2-4 at Lake Wylie at YMCA Camp Thunderbird.
The featured event is The Riley’s Cup, a world-class bass fishing tournament. Created by Riley’s Catch and sponsored by Scott Clark Toyota and Clifton Larson Allen LLP, the excursion will be captained by some of the most talented collegiate anglers in the country including two-time Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Champions, the “UNC Charlotte Bass Rats,” “East Carolina Bass Fishing Team,” and “NC State Bass Pack,” three-time winners of the coveted national title, as well as teams from Wake Forest University, University of South Carolina and Clemson University. Bassmaster Elite Series Pro Britt Myers will also speak before the Riley’s Cup launch.
Teens also will be encouraged to hone leadership skills during zip lines, archery, riflery, creative arts and other team-building adventures. About 300 students from across the region are expected to participate.
Cost is $175 and includes overnight cabin accommodations, meals, activities and fishing tournament. Financial assistance is available. To register a student, visit lifeofimpact.me.
Riversweep registration open
The Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation is gearing up for the 14th annual Riversweep Oct. 3 on Lake Wylie.
Organizers are working on incentives for boat captains, who must be 21 or older, and for online registrants of all ages to help clean the lake. Organizers also will have materials and ways to protect boats used in Riversweep.
