Oakridge Middle School football teams see wins

▪ The Oakridge Middle School seventh grade football team defeated Sullivan 28-18 at home Sept. 16. The Golden Eagles led at halftime 16-6, but Sullivan came back scoring two straight touchdowns pushing the score to 22-18 with 2 minutes remaining. An injured Baker Womack fought through the offensive line and brought down the quarterback. The Sullivan quarterback threw to a receiver downfield for a potential game-winning pass, but OMS linebacker Austin Stroup undercut the ball and returned it for a touchdown.

▪ The OMS eighth grade volleyball team won Sept. 22 against Fort Mill Middle School in three sets: 25-15, 17-25, 15-7. Playing well for Oakridge were: Blair Abernathy, 5 service points, 2 aces; Dakota Peters, 4 service points, 3 kills; Lakyn Seamster, 6 service points, 3 aces and 3 kills; Maggie Payne, 11 service points, 2 kills; Manson Williams, 3 service points, 1 kill.

▪ The OMS seventh grade volleyball team lost Sept. 22 to Gold Hill Middle in three sets: 25-12, 10-25, 13-15. Despite powerful first set, the Lady Eagles were plagued by mistakes. Alina Tomko had an excellent night passing. Kailee Long showed a consistent serve. Rylie Zohner had a few spikes on the ball.

▪ The seventh grade OMS volleyball team lost to Clover Sept. 24 in two sets: 25-10, 25-21. The Lady Golden Eagles struggled to focus during the first set. OMS had some serving errors in the second set. Cierra Hill had an excellent game passing the ball and setting plays up, and Alexa Smith did well serving and setting.

▪ The OMS eighth grade volleyball team defeated hometown rival Clover Middle School in two sets: 25-23, 25-17. Contributing to the wins were: Blair Abernathy, 2 aces; Maggie Wilson, 5 assists, 1 ace; Lakyn Seamster, 3 aces and 2 kills; Maggie Payne, 1 ace and 3 kills; Ann Mason McConnell, 1 kill; Skyler Wolf, 2 assists; And Jordan Phillips, 1 kill.

▪ The Oakridge eighth grade football team defeated Fort Mill 52-6 on Sept. 23, in the first divisional game of the season.

Offensive statistics: Drew Moore, 150 yards rushing, 45 yards receiving, 4 touchdowns (35 yard run, 65 yard run, 26 yard run, 43 yard reception); Garrett Hawkins,70 yards rushing, 1 touchdown (5 yard run), 1 point after touchdown; Zion Robbins, 60 yards rushing, 1 PAT; Evan Enix, 40 yards rushing, 1 touchdown (25 yard run); Tay Cupe and Jay Falls, each had 20 yards rushing, each had 1 PAT; Chris Tribble, 15 yards rushing, 1 touchdown (10-yard run); Caleb Ratliff, 10 yards rushing, 1 PAT; Blackmon Huckabee, 1 for 1 passing for 45 yards, 1 touchdown.

Defensive highlights: Numerous tackles by Drew Moore, Aaron Adair, Evan Enix, Matt Hurley and Claas Prikker; Drew Moore, 1 sack; Bryson Whisnant, fumble recovery; Tay Cupe, forced fumble; Justin Khem, fumble recovery.

▪ The seventh grade OMS football team defeated Fort Mill 48-8 Sept. 23.

Offense highlights: Rhyan Cheatham, 4 rushes, 2 yards; JR Good, 3 rushes, 1 yard; Josia, Turner, 3 rushes, 4 yards, 2 pt conversion; Harper Love, 2 rushes, 8 yards 1 for 1 passing, 28 yards; Austin Stroup, 5 rushes, 153 yards, 3 touchdowns. 1 catch for 25 yards, 1 for 1 passing, 28 yards; Noah Caulder, 3 rushes, 53 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 pt conversion, 1 catch for 28 yards; Baker Womack, 4 rushes, 7 yards.

Defense: JR Good, 3 tackles; Austin Stroup, 1 tackle, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery, 65 yard kickoff return, 3 TDs; Deshaun Pooler, 2 tackles; Noah Caulder, 3 tackles; Jaylen Strout, 2 tackles; Baker Womack, 2 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1/2 sack; Chandler Kitchen, 1 fumble recovery; Jacob Frey, 1 sack; Adam Arowski, 2 tackles; Aaron Vannavong, 1 tackle; Justin Moua, 1 tackle, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 1/2 sacks; Jordan Moore, 1 tackle, 1 forced fumble.
