Sports briefs: Lake Wylie golfers win tourney in mixed division

Wylie golfers finish first in mixed division

Cindy Altieri and Tom Bookmiller, both of Lake Wylie, finished first in the mixed division at the Sept. 21 Carolinas Golf Association’s One-Day Four Ball Tournament at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Their winning finish was 36-39 - 75.

Entry is open to any amateur golfer who is a member of a club, which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, and has a current USGA handicap index at a CGA member club. The field is divided into flights based on yardages and gender: Men A, Men B, Mixed and Women flights.

Local golfers swing in Cornelius, N.C., event

John Reimers of Clover and Jim Sears of Lake Wylie finished 37-37 - 74 in Super Senior 65 and older Flight A in the Aug. 31 Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball One-Day Tournament at The Peninsula Club in Cornelius, N.C.

Dave Duncan and Harold Fisher, both of Lake Wylie, finished 36-39 - 75 in Super Senior 65 and Flight B.

Tournament format is 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the tournament date, is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club. The field is divided into divisions based on age and total team course handicap: Tournament Division-Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 65 and older Division, Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 70 and older Division.

Blackwell to speak at Winthrop Eagles Coaching Clinic

Former York Comprehensive High School head girls’ basketball coach Paula Blackwell will be a guest speaker at the Winthrop Eagles Coaching Clinic next month.

The clinic will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 3 at the Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill. Blackwell’s topic will be “How To Run Your Own Program.”

Bowling leagues forming

Lake Wylie Bowl N’ Bounce is forming fall leagues for all ages and skill levels.

Leagues are sanctioned and unsanctioned, competitive or social for children through seniors.
