Club news: Mayday Project seeks golfers for Oct. 12 tourney in Lake Wylie

Mayday Project golf tourney Oct. 12

The fifth annual Lake Wylie/Clover Mayday Project Charity Golf Tournament will be Oct. 12 at River Hills Country Club.

Check-in time is 10:30 a.m.-noon. Entry fee costs $90 per player and includes a cart, lunch and awards dinner. Entry forms are available at River Hills Country Club Pro Shop or by calling 704-301-4848.

Money raised will go to help homeless and families in need in the Clover and York school districts.

Troop 333 selling popcorn

Lake Wylie Troop 333, which meets at River Hills Community Church, is gearing up for its annual popcorn fundraiser. Each Scout will sell popcorn through Oct. 23.

Scouts will be at Lowe’s in Lake Wylie on Oct. 10. Proceeds go to troop activities including camp-outs, supplies and operating costs.

Lions sell all 300 raffle tickets

The River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club has sold all 300 tickets for the Oct. 3 raffle.

The raffle benefits the River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS, which offers free services or payable through patient’s insurance in the Lake Wylie area.

Raffle tickets cost $100, and only one ticket will be drawn, with the winner receiving $10,000. The winning ticket will be drawn at 8:30 p.m. at River Hills Country Club.

River Hills Women’s group to meet

The River Hills Women’s Club’s Oct. 21 luncheon will feature Jackie Wagner of the Daughters of the American Revolution at River Hills Country Club.

This is a social group for women who live in River Hills or are a member of the River Hills Country Club. Interest groups include Book Club, Garden Club, Beginners Bridge, Couples Bridge, Sew and Chat, and more.

Returning and new members should pay annual dues of $20 to Sandy Shaffer at 32 Catawba Ridge Road. To become a member, email jvaug@verizon.net or call 724-561-4435. For more information, call 803-831-7871.

Woman’s club holds membership tea

The Clover Woman’s Club opened the year with a membership tea at Kay Vrooman’s home Sept. 10.

Charter members there were Adele Edmunds and Peggy Robinson. The mayor of Clover read the proclamation of the club’s 65th year at the town council meeting to four of its charter members.

The club members plan to celebrate the founding all year and hold a tea in the spring.

Sweet Repeat names charity groups

Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation has named groups that received donations this year.

The group donated $71,000 to several charities: Camp Thunderbird, Canine Companions, Children’s Attention Home, Chrysalis Autism Center, Clover Area Assistance Center, God’s Kitchen, Herman Presbyterian Church, Hospice Community Care, Lake Wylie Children’s Charity, Lake Wylie Library, Make A Wish Foundation, Mia Via Inc., Misty Meadows Mighty Riders, Pilgrim’s Inn, Respect for Life Ministries, Richardson Rescue, RideAbility Therapeutic Riding Center, River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS, The Haven Men’s Shelter and York County Adult Day Care.

The club also awarded three scholarships to Clover High School students.

The group raises money through its thrift store at 4082B Charlotte Highway in Lake Wylie Plaza. Hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The store accepts gently-used clothing, furniture, kitchen items, jewelry and more.

New members are welcome. Annual dues cost $20, and members are required to work six hours a month at the shop. Applications are available at the store.
