▪ The prospect of a long-promised new public library in Fort Mill was fading as a suitable site could not be found.
▪ The Flint Hill Fire Department received final approval to build a satellite station on Pleasant Road.
▪ The Fort Mill Middle School cheerleaders received seven superior ratings, one excellent rating and the championship trophy at a competition held at Furman University.
▪ A 23-year-old Fort Mill woman was charged with child abuse after she deliberately burned her 5-year-old son with a cigarette and a lighter because he crossed the street.
1975
▪ First day school enrollment for Fort Mill schools was 2,404 students, up from 2,297 the previous year.
▪ During a city council meeting, it was noted that the city had been billed and had paid for several million gallons of water that could not be accounted for.
▪ Recent movies in Rock Hill included “The Exorcist” at the Pix and James Whitmore as Harry S. Truman in “Give’em Hell Harry!” at the Cinema.
▪ Seaman Dale P. Shelley, formerly of Oak Street, Fort Mill, graduated from recruit training at the Naval Training Center, Orlando, Fla.
1955
▪ C. Everett Mize, veteran Fort Mill police officer, submitted his resignation and was replaced by Marvin Godfrey.
▪ Recent movies at the Center Theatre included “Lady and the Tramp,” “Mister Roberts,” “The Seven Year Itch” with Marilyn Monroe and “The Sea Chase” with John Wayne.
1935
▪ Football prospects for Fort Mill High School were brighter this year according to coach Cleveland Lytle. The team averaged 150 pounds per man compared to 135 pounds last season.
▪ Worth Shaw of Fort Mill returned to his duties as an instructor in chemistry and biology at Davidson College.
