Barbecue, dancing and more part of annual night out for the Adult Enrichment Center party

Get ready for a pig eating, bootscootin’, hoedown kind of night.

That’s the kind of fun organizers say can be had at the Adult Enrichment Centers Annual Night Out fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Field Trail Barn at the Anne Springs Close Greenway.

Adult Enrichment serves seniors and adults with and without disabilities. York County Adult Daycare Services Inc., a not-for-profit, operates Adult Enrichment Centers in Fort Mill, Rock Hill and York. In 2013, the Fort Mill center was named National Outstanding Adult Day Center of the Year by the National Adult Day Services Association.

A cornhole tournament that had been scheduled was postponed due to expected storms Saturday. But the rest of the party will go on as planned.

Evening festivities will kickoff at 6 p.m. with the championship cornhole game, followed by dinner and dancing. The BBQ is provided by Gerald and George – “It’s insane. It does not need sauce,” said Fort Mill AEC Director Samantha Samatha Kriegshauser.Kriegshauser.

Music is by DJ Mei.

“He is off the hook,” Kriegshauser said.

A fire pit is on site for marshmallow roasting.

“It’s really just a party,” Kriegshauser said. “There is no fundraising that night.”

And there is sure to be some dancing going on.

“We have some actually pretty good little dancers,” Kriegshauser said. “Our clients come and they bring their own energy. They love music.”

Mechanical company AME Inc. has been a major sponsor of the event each year.

“It’s really awesome to have a Fort Mill company that invested,” Kriegshauser said. “AME has helped support this event since the beginning and they raise their donation every year.”

All proceeds are tax-deductible and used to enhance the centers’ programming, Kriegshauser said. Clients participate in activities, from arts and crafts, to music therapy to interacting with technology through iPads.

One of the centers’ premier programs is water therapy at the Complex on the Greenway. Clients confined to a wheelchair swim with help from AEC staff and some are able to walk while in the water.

“I wouldn’t trade that program,” Kriegshauser said.
