CHS Unified bocce team brings home 13 medals
Clover High School Special Olympics Unified bocce team brought home 13 medals from a Rock Hill competition.
The team, made up of Special Olympics student athletes and other students, brought home four first place medals, five second place, and four third place.
Most of the team qualified to compete at states Nov. 7.
CHS golf coach to lead All-Star
Lyn Harper, head coach for Clover High School girls’ golf team, has been chosen to coach the North team in the fourth annual North-South All-Star Girls golf match Nov. 13-14 at Timberlake Country Club in Chapin.
Harper has led the program for 11 seasons and is the first CHS coach in the event.
“Being selected to coach in the all-star match is a great honor,” she said. “Golf is a lifelong sport. It teaches lessons in integrity, honesty and sportsmanship.”
Harper will be joined by Dorman High School’s Lewis Terry. The North will square off against South coaches Kelly White of Socastee High School and Brandon Smith of Lexington High School.
Clover High cross-country runners compete
The Clover High School cross-country varsity boys out ran Northwestern High School and Lake Pointe Academy Sept. 23 on their last home meet at New Centre Park in Clover.
Ben Clark finished the race in first place with a time of 16:50. Will White finished third at 17:32, and Leland Capps came in fifth at 18:23.
Colton Ennis was sixth at 18:26. Verzal Morton was seventh with a season’s best at 18:36, Luke Darling was eighth at 18:46 and Dakota Harvey was 13th at 19:14.
Junior varsity boys with season’s best times were James Westergard at 20:14 and Mike Kramer at 20:50.
The CHS girls took second place behind Northwestern.
Jesse Delfaco won the race in 20:31, a minute and a half in front of a Northwestern runner. Hannah Parker was second for Clover with a personal record of 22:57.
Ann Marie White was third for Clover, and Trinity Moore was fourth for Clover, followed by Jax Hendrickson, who set a new personal record of 25:43. Cassie Caldwell and Riley Moss finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively, for Clover.
At the end of the race, senior runners were recognized: Cassie Caldwell, Jewel McBee, Jax Hendrickson, Ann Marie White, Christian Ariza, Chamond Brewington and Colton Ennis.
CHS football game free for military
Military Appreciation Night is Oct. 9 at the Clover High School football game at Memorial Stadium.
Admission is free for active military members and veterans with ID or DD 214.
Also, CHS and River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club is collecting used golf balls to ship to soldiers overseas. Collection bins will be at the game and at the high school main office through Oct. 9.
