▪ Frivolous 911 calls were making the Fort Mill Rescue Squad’s task much more difficult. An ambulance was called to the same Fort Mill address nine times in an 18-hour shift.
▪ The Rev. Doug Morgan, 57, pastor of the Fort Mill Church of God for 11 years, died at his home on Academy Street.
▪ Julia Brackett, sponsored by Robert Mackey, was crowned Homecoming Queen during halftime of Fort Mill’s 14-6 victory over Lugoff-Elgin.
▪ Glass artist Ginny Morgan, a Fort Mill native, was featured in a four-page article in the New York Times Magazine.
1975
▪ Drury Nathaniel Helms, Herman Eli Honeycutt, Randy S. Wolfe and Charles M. Player were named “Outstanding Young Men of America.”
▪ Fort Mill’s Yellow Jackets blitzed preseason Conference III-AA favorite Cowpens 41-0. Indian Land defeated the Mt. Pisgah Rams 14-12.
▪ Two Indian Land young ladies won Junior Miss Pageants. Miss Jeannie Potts was Fort Mill Junior Miss and Miss Janice Yoder was Lancaster Junior Miss.
▪ A 64,615-square-foot Kmart discount store department store opened on Cherry Road in Rock Hill to the delight of area shoppers.
1955
▪ Fort Mill High School agriculture teacher H.M. McCallum and agriculture student Charles Garrison were chosen to attend the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, MO.
▪ J.D. Lesslie of Fort Mill was elected president of the South Carolina Water and Sewer Work Association at a meeting in Columbia.
1935
▪ Fort Mill High School opened the 1935 football season at Lancaster. The game ended in a scoreless tie. Sam Meacham and Albert Sutton led the local 11.
▪ The Drum and Bugle Corps of the Rock Hill American Legion gave an exhibition and led a parade through the streets of Fort Mill.
1915
▪ The annual cotton picking of the Flint Hill and Gold Hill Baptist Sunday Schools for the benefit of the Connie Maxwell Orphanage in Greenwood was held on two farms.
▪ Bertha Whit was convicted in Charlotte of illegally handling beer and was fined $50. Whit had been forced to leave Fort Mill for multiple arrests of the same offense.
