Column: Girls on the Run is awesome!
“Perfectly awesome” describes my experience at Girls on the Run so far.
Absolutely everything is awesome, except for the tiring parts. I know I’m supposed to be writing about the awesome parts, but I need to talk about the tiring parts too, otherwise it wouldn’t be fair.
Now let us talk about my exhilarating first day.
Everyone has first day jitters, including me. When I walked through that door my whole body, head to toe, went numb. But when my coaches started talking, I thawed out.
At first we just introduced ourselves, but then we played team building exercises. After that we did real stuff.
Running!
So, when we went outside we played a running game. The game worked like this: each girl was asked a true or false question. If the runner answered true she had to run clockwise. If she answered false she had to run counterclockwise. We learned a lot about each other through the questions and answers.
After we ran we did our first-ever energy award! We did the pencil sharpener energy award. You have to ball up both of your hands. Then you turn your right hand around and say, “You’re sharp!’’ That’s how we ended the first day of Girls On The Run. It was a great way to make all the team members feel like they made a good effort and that we could improve no matter what level we were on.
Overall, as you can tell, my first day was tiring. But any other time it wasn’t tiring, it was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
