Oakridge Middle School football teams win against Springfield

▪ The seventh grade Oakridge Middle School volleyball team lost 18-25 and 22-25 to Fort Mill Oct. 6. Kennedy Abbott and Kadi McNamara worked hard at the net and serving line.

▪ The eighth grade volleyball team lost 17-25, 25-17 and 12-15 Oct. 6 to No. 1 division team Fort Mill Middle School. Jordan Phillips and Blair Abernathy put up a wall on the front line with Brooklyn Gunn on defense in the back with digs and saves. Lakyn Seamster had 4 kills, Dakota Peters had 3 kills, and Maggie Payne and Blair Abernathy had 2 kills. Maggie Wilson had 4 services aces and 5 assists.

▪ The seventh grade volleyball team won 18-25, 25-23 and 15-11 Oct. 8 against Gold Hill Middle. Kadi McNamara earned a couple of kills and several hits. Kennedy Abbott, Cierra Hill and Rylie Zohner also contributed with attacks at the net. Kailee Long had the first block of the season.

▪ The eighth grade volleyball team won its last home game against Gold Hill Middle School – 23-25, 28-26, 15-8 – putting the season record at 6-4. Big serving came from Maggie Payne, Brooklyn Gunn and Sarah Lerner, with strong offensive play from Lakyn Seamster.

▪ The eighth grade football beat Springfield, 28-14, Oct. 7. The biggest play of the game came with 12 seconds before halftime. Springfield led 14-6 and were threatening to score again. Inside the 5-yard line, Springfield’s quarterback ran to his left toward the goal line. Hayden Johnson ripped the ball free from the quarterback’s hands, and Drew Moore scooped up the ball and took it in for a 96-yard touchdown. In third quarter, Zion Robbins and Drew Moore each added touchdowns putting 28-14 on the scoreboard. In fourth quarter, Oakridge defense stepped up and halted the Mustangs’ drive forcing an incomplete pass on fourth down. The Golden Eagles took over on downs and controlled the clock for the last four minutes to secure the victory. OMS defense played tough for the final three quarters. Hayden Johnson racked up tackles, forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble. Drew Moore and Dymaree Mason also had fumble recoveries. Evan Enix forced a fumble and had two tackles for loss. Comorey Mikell had one tackle for loss and also made tackles throughout the game. Offensive statistics: Moore, 88 yards rushing, 184 all-purpose yards, 3 TDs, and 1 two-point conversion; Robbins, 117 yards rushing, 1 TD and 1 two-point conversion.

▪ The seventh grade football team won Oct. 7 at Springfield, 46-22. Springfield began the game marching down the field, until Austin Stroup tackled the runner causing a fumble. Stroup rushed a touchdown from 5 yards out. Springfield again marched down the field, scoring to tie the game, 8-8. On kickoff, Springfield tested Noah Caulder and paid for it with a 65-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. After forcing a Springfield punt, Caulder made a one-handed catch over the middle. Stroup finished with another TD run, and the score at halftime was 22-8. The Golden Eagles are now 5-0 on the season. Offensive statistics: Austin Stroup, 11 rushes, 165 yards rushing, 25 yards receiving, 4 TDs, 1 two-point conversion; Noah Caulder, 6 rushes, 38 yards rushing, 22 yards receiving, 2 TDs, 2 two-point conversions, 75-yard kickoff return for TD; Harper Love. 2 rushes, 17 yards rushing, 4 for 4 passing, 45 yards, 1 two-point conversion; Josiah Turner, 1 rush, 2 yards rushing, 2 yards receiving, 1 two-point conversion; Baker Womack, 2 rushes, 5 yards rushing; Jason Marson. 1 rush, 1 yard rushing. Defensive statistics: Austin Stroup: 6 tackles, forced fumble; Noah Caulder, 1 tackle, 1 interception returned 75 yards for a TD; Rhyan Cheatham, 3 tackles; John Robert Good, 4 tackles; Baker Womack, 4 tackles; Jaylen Strout, 1 tackle; Aiden Adair, 1 tackle; Jacob Frey, 3 tackles; Caleb Cancel, 3 tackles; Graysen Lathum, 1 tackle; Aaron Vannavong, 2 tackles; Justin Moua, 3 tackles.
