News briefs: Charlotte Douglas airport to hold public meetings on noise

CLT to hold noise map update meetings

Charlotte Douglas International Airport will present a draft Noise Exposure Map update in two information and public hearing meetings.

▪ 6-8 p.m. Oct. 15, Sheraton Charlotte Airport Hotel, 3315 Scott Futrell Drive, Charlotte.

▪ 6-8 p.m. Oct. 14, Olympic High School, 4301 Sandy Porter Road, Charlotte.

Attendees will be encouraged to provide comments before the NEM update is submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration for review and official determination. One section of the meeting location will be dedicated to the information and the other will be dedicated to the public hearing.

The information session will be held in an open house style with display boards. Airport and noise consultants will answer questions.

Water rate hearings set

Carolina Water Service customers in York County can weigh in on the proposed water and sewer rate at public hearings in Clover and Rock Hill.

The state Public Service Commission will hold a hearing at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at First Baptist Church in Rock Hill, 481 Hood Center Drive. Another hearing is scheduled at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Clover School District Auditorium, 1625 Highway 55 E.

Anyone wanting to testify in the rate case can do so at the hearings. Speakers get three minutes, with all testimony given under oath. Residents testifying can expect the attention of commissioners, but the group will not answer questions.

Carolina Water filed June 20 for a rate increase throughout its South Carolina service areas. The average water and sewer increases are about 20 percent.

Tickets on sale for garden’s music festival

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden’s first Lost Hollow Music Fest will be held Oct. 17-18 featuring six performances by old time, bluegrass and Americana bands including Grammy winner David Holt and Nashville mandolin prodigy Sierra Hull.

The festival kicks off at 10 a.m. Oct. 17 with Riverbend, David Childers & the Serpents at noon, and headliner Sierra Hull at 2 p.m. On Oct. 18, the event starts at noon with Darin & Brooke Aldridge, followed by Underhill Rose at 2 p.m., and headliner David Holt & Josh Goforth at 4 p.m.

The six-week session costs $30 per person.

The town of Clover is accepting submissions for Gallery 120, 120 Bethel St.

Gallery 120’s Advisory Board Members for 2015-16 are Shanna Stanton, chairwoman; Alexandria Baker, vice-chairwoman; Jackie Clarkin, secretary; Debbie Sherwood, curator; LuAnne Lovelace, Barbara Denny, Andrea Meglii and Chris Williams.

Fall Frolic runs through Nov. 1

Anne Springs Close Greenway offers Fall Frolic through Nov. 1 with horse rides and hay bale mazes, a 4-acre corn maze and pumpkin patch.

Other activities include wagon rides, farm animals, pedal carts, face painting and kayaking.

Cost is $10 per person for greenway members and $12 for nonmembers. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Joy 4 Tots Ride Nov. 8

The 11th annual Joy 4 Tots Ride starts at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at Oakridge Clubhouse on Oakridge Road and ending at Roosevelt Park in Clover.

Bikers should bring one toy per biker.
