Business briefs: Jonas Brothers family opening restaurant in Belmont
Jonas family opening Nellie’s Southern Kitchen
Kevin Jonas Sr., father of music group Jonas Brothers, will open Nellie’s Southern Kitchen in his hometown.
The restaurant at 36 N. Main St. is a tribute to the Jonas family that can trace its North Carolina roots to the 1760s. Jonas estimates 60 relatives still live in the area.
“Our hometown is thriving, and we want to help bring more visitors to town,” he said. “Kevin, Joe and Nick have always loved visiting Belmont, and look forward to visits as we open the restaurant.”
Southern-style cuisine inspired by family recipes and using the best local ingredients will be on the menu developed by executive chef Ben Sholiton. The 10,000-square-foot restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner. Staples include fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, and shrimp and grits, as well as homemade breads and pastries. The menu also will offer lighter dishes.
Jonas’s sister Joy Auten will serve as managing director and cousin Danielle Davison Jonas serves as operations manager. Jonas is targeting a holiday opening depending on construction progress in the space that formerly housed an antique and consignment shop.
