Publix to open Nov. 11 in Lake Wylie
The Publix in Lake Wylie will open at 7 a.m. Nov. 11, said company spokeswoman Kim Reynolds.
Veterans, military personnel and their family will get a 10 percent discount because the store is opening on Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day. They just need to provide a military or veteran ID, or driver’s license with veteran designation.
The 49,000-square-foot Publix will offer similar features to other stores nearby, including a full-service bakery, deli and meat a seafood department.
The company held a three-day hiring session Sept. 3-6 for 60 part-time openings in all departments.
The new store will be the fifth in York and Lancaster counties. It joins locations at Whitehall Commons and Steele Creek Crossing in Steele Creek.
The Lake Wylie opening comes two years after Publix announced it would open at 158 Highway 274.
The store was torn down, rebuilt and expanded from its prior uses as a Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie. It was one of the final of 11 stores announced in 2013. Now there are 18 stores opening through 2017, including sites in Steele Creek at Steele Creek Crossing and Whitehall Commons.
On April 14, 2014, Publix purchased The Landing Station plaza from Rivercrest Realty. Work at the former grocery store began in January.
Construction meant the relocation of several businesses in the shopping center, and months of limited parking access for the half dozen businesses still there.
Three businesses moved to accommodate Publix’s plan. Domino’s Pizza and Nationwide Insurance moved to the second phase of Anchor Shops Place that opened in the fall 2014, and Regal Cleaners moved nearby to Shoppes at the Landing near Papa John’s.
Aim Mail Center, Echo Consignment, Panda Hut and Elite Taekwondo Academy remain neighbors of Publix at the plaza.
