Tega Cay Fall Festival offers family fun
Live entertainment, contests and food trucks will take over the Glennon Community Center on Oct. 24.
The Tega Cay Fall Festival will have more options for family-friendly fun this year, said Joey Blethen, city recreation director. The festival is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Gold Hill Elementary, Fort Mill High and Springfield Middle school choruses will perform in the morning followed by an exhibition by Tiger Kim’s Tae Kwon Do.
The city is putting an emphasis this year on local goods and is expecting about 60 art and craft vendors, Blethen said.
“It’s nice to get the community out and supporting local businesses,” he said.
Encore Dance Studio will perform at 12:25 p.m., and at 2 p.m. Big Bamboo Band will take the stage. Throughout the day, DJ Tim Brown “The Brownsound” will MC and play during breaks.
Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters for the costume parade and contest hosted by the Tega Cay Lions Club. Participants will receive a treat bag and winners will get a trophy.
“It’s a pretty big tradition,” Blethen said.
A free kids’ zone will feature inflatables and carnival rides and there will be a hulu-hoop contest in the afternoon. For the adults, a beer garden is provided by Towne Tavern.
“We’ve tried our best to have a variety of things that would interest people,” Blethen said.
The city is pushing for more food trucks at events and anticipates seven trucks to be on site at the festival, he said. Vendors include Sal’s Roadside Eatery, Spoon’s BBQ, Smax Flatbread Grill, Cheese to the Mac, Roman’s Icy Treats, Maki Taco and Comfort Foods on Wheels.
“There is going to be a wide range of food,” Blethen said.
Tega Cay Mayor George Sheppard said the festival is a staple in the community.
“Come out and participate with your family, grab a meal from the food trucks and catch up with your friends and neighbors,” he said.
