Column: Learning the Attitude of Gratitude
Hello, again.
Get your popcorn ready, because I’m ready to give you another dramatic description of my experience in Girl’s On The Run.
OK, not really so dramatic, but you get the idea by now, I’m sure.
The lesson for the first practice of this week was The Attitude of Gratitude. Just in case you do not know the meaning of gratitude, basically it is to be thankful. What I think that means is to have thankfulness on a day besides Thanksgiving.
However, I want us to be better than that. Try to remember to be thankful everyday. Think about the people who do not have the ability to do some of the stuff that you can do. Whether it’s getting to work on time, catching a plane, or in some cases the school bus, there is always something to be thankful for.
Any of you could have been late for work or school and had that impact your entire your day – or even the whole week!
I thought about all this when I was running this week. It was easy for me to complain that it was too hot or that it seemed like my coach forgot her watch. With this lesson in mind, though I remembered that there are people who do not have any clean water to drink. Or maybe they don’t have a Girls On The Run program.
I realize there are people who have lost the ability to run – or never had it. I am not saying that I will never complain again, but I will think twice about the lesson The Attitude of Gratitude before I do.
Try it for yourself!
