Lake Wylie Children’s Charity concert celebrates record fundraising year
Despite rainy weather Oct. 4 shifting Lake Wylie Children’s Charity benefit concert event indoors, the nonprofit is celebrating a record-breaking fundraising year.
The group raised $65,000 for this year’s recipients: Jaxon Clark, 5, with a rare genetic disorder, and Kelsey Funderburk, 14, with a brain tumor.
“Due to the nasty weather, we were forced to move the concert inside, to T-Bones on the Lake,” said Haven Presley, chairwoman of the charity’s board of directors. “I thought for sure this would lead to a dip in proceeds, but the opposite happened. We had an amazing turnout.”
In its 13th year, Lake Wylie Children’s Charity helps families with children battling life-threatening diseases. Last year’s event raised $53,000, Presley said.
The concert is typically held on the lawn at T-bones and includes games, a bake sale and silent auction.
“We could not have done this without the support of T-Bones, the bands who played, DJ Big Sexy, and Carolina Panthers mascot Sir Purr,” said Jennifer Joye, the charity’s executive director. “We especially want to thank those who donated to our silent auction, those who donated bake sale items, and all of our wonderful, dedicated volunteers.”
