‘Carolina Landscapes’
Paintings by Al Beyer will be on exhibit Oct. 31-Feb. 28. A collection of large-scale realistic oil paintings, “Carolina Landscapes” encompasses the viewer in both scale and detail – the largest painting is nearly 7 feet long. CROP Walk
Eastern York County CROP Walk features a 3.5-mile route for this community hunger appeal of Church World Service. The Rev. Ricky Howell is organizer and a United Methodist campus minister with the Winthrop Wesley Foundation. Participants gather on the Dinkins Hall lawn at Winthrop University. This year’s event also features CanStruction, a competition encouraging groups to create sculptures with canned food items. Participants in the CROP Walk will view the creations and vote on their favorite. Canned food items will be donated to local food pantries. ‘Only Owls’ – After Hours
Kicking off Museum of York Count’s new exhibit “Only Owls” with this special event and extended hours for families after work and school. The Carolina Raptor Center will bring live owls for presentations at 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. Woodsy Owl, the U.S. National Forest Service’s mascot, will make an appearance. The Settlemyre Planetarium will feature “Perseus and Andromeda” at 5, 6:30 and 7 p.m. Gardner’s BBQ food truck will be on site 4-7 p.m. with a percentage of sales going to the museum. “Only Owls” runs from Nov. 7-Feb. 28 in the museum’s Springs Gallery. Showcasing artwork of more than 30 artists, the exhibit features two-dimensional works created in pencil, ink, watercolor and woodcut, as well as interactive exploration.
