Helping others and inner beauty

Who wants to learn about what happened during Girls on the Run this week?

Well, of course you do, or you wouldn’t be reading this.

This week’s lesson was about charity. We began planning our community outreach project. Honestly, I initially wanted to do some kind of sale that benefited the homeless, but my teammates came up with the idea of raising money for an animal shelter. Although this was not my idea, I think I will enjoy whatever fundraiser we are doing for two reasons:

▪  I get to do it with my fellow runners.

▪  It is to help those who can’t help themselves.

This week, we also talked about the importance of helping others and how that creates inner beauty. First, let us talk about the importance of helping others. I think the importance of lending a helping hand is so the world can be a better place. I mean almost every day you probably see someone pulled over on the side of the road. The least we could do is stop to see what is wrong or to see if we can help.

I challenge you to stop when you are in a rush to help someone in need. They might have been in a rush too, but their car broke down. If that happened to you, you would want help.

I am old enough to know that this simple act of charity won’t save the world, but maybe it could be the first step that will lead in saving the world. When you help someone they see you as a generous person that took your time to help them out.

To me, that puts inner beauty into action.
