Lake Wylie Elementary School students and teachers planted 187 trees on Erwin Road school grounds Oct. 23, thanks to TreesCharlotte.

Trees included magnolia, arborvitae, elm, sassafras, gingko, maple, fringe and redbud. Students also learned about proper planting techniques and tree care.

TreesCharlotte is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding Charlotte’s tree canopy with the goal of attaining 50 percent tree canopy by 2050, which means planting 500,000 trees in the next 35 years. TreesCharlotte also serves as stewards of the land, protecting trees from disease and educating the public about tree care. Learn more at treescharlotte.org.
