▪ The Oakridge Middle School seventh grade football team defeated Dutchman’s Creek Middle School 20-14 on Oct. 28.
DCMS scored on the first possession of the game. The Golden Eagles got on the board when Austin Stroup broke loose for a 50-yard touchdown. The conversion failed and the Gators led 8-6 at half. Stroup then recovered a fumble for a touchdown and the Golden Eagles took the lead, 14-8, with a conversion. Both teams scored again and Oakridge took the lead at 20-14.
DCMS drove to Oakridge’s 1-yard line but the Golden Eagles stopped the ball carrier with 1.4 seconds left, sealing the victory.
OMS finished the season with a 7-1 record.
Offense highlights: Austin Stroup, 110 rushing yards, 1 TD; Harper Love, 2/4 passing; Noah Caulder, 11 rushing yard, 18 kick-return yards; Baker Womack, 15 rushing yards.
Defense highlights: Austin Stroup, 5 tackles; forced fumble, fumble recovery, fumble return for a touchdown; Giancarlo Crovet, 6 tackles; Aaron Vannavong, 3 tackles; Justin Moua, JR Good, Baker Womack, Grey Nixon, Josiah Turner, Cory Adams, Grayson Hall: 1 tackle each.
▪ The eighth grade football team lost its last game of the season Oct. 28 to Sullivan, 28-14.
Oakridge was down 22-6 at half and the turnovers were too much to overcome. Tay Cupe scored both touchdowns and the 2-point conversion for the Golden Eagles. Hayden Johnson, Comorey Mikell and Matt Hurley were part of the defense's success in the second half. Blackmon Huckabee notched his third interception of the season. Hayden Johnson had a fumble recovery.
